Since I'm new to the club and because of the virus situation, I've not attended any forays yet. On Easter morning a mushroom appeared in my yard. Kerry my mushroom-identifier friend said it was a morel, and it's edible.
A second one appeared on Earthday.
They were very delicious. The host is a fig tree. The spore would have come in by way of mulch.

The Mother-lode
Written by Russ Chandler
On May 21, 2017, in a year that turned out to be epic for all wild mushrooms, I had my best morel hunt ever.
Me and a friend were hunting a few of our regular spots on the east side of Mt. Hood that usually produce 50 to 100 natural Morels every hunt.
This hunt was the exception.
As we worked our way down a south-facing slope it became apparent that we had hit the “mother-lode”. In our mounting excitement we started counting off each time we found a Morel. As our counts moved past 250-plus Morels each, our euphoria was leavened a bit, as it oddly started feeling like work.
When our “work”was done we could not wipe the smiles from our faces. We have been fortunate to find other “mother-lodes”of Chanterelles and Matsutake’s on occasion but we have not had a sequel to our Morel experience yet.
